From the age of 10, anyone can learn to dive as long as they pass medical requirements and (for those under 18) provide parental consent.
Upon completion of their course, those under the age of 14 will be awarded with a ‘Junior’ certification. The only difference between these being that divers must always be accompanied by a professional, parent or guardian and are limited by depth, dependent on their age.
‘Junior’ certifications can be automatically upgraded when the diver reaches 15, providing there is proof of diving activity within the last 12 months and approval from a parent or guardian.
But for the kids who are just dying to give scuba diving a go, then there is always the Future Buddies programme.
Where those between the ages of 8-12 can spend an hour or two getting introduced to the sport in shallow water (6m/20ft) with a maximum for two participants to one instructor.
