Entering the Engine Control Room on

The SS President Coolidge

From the engine room at approximately 45 m (6 m below the condenser), a small hatch leads into one of the most significant spaces on the SS President Coolidge—the engine control room.

Inside, divers can see a wall of glass dials, some still showing the ship’s steam pressure at the time of sinking. Large engine telegraphs, marked with commands like “Stop,” “Slow,” and “Full Ahead,” are also visible, once used to relay orders from the bridge to the engineers and maintain the ship’s course.
